The controversial smooch Hoax star Richard Gere planted on the cheek of Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty,31,at an April 15 HIV awareness event in the Indian city of New Delhi has caused quite an uproar in the Asian nation.And following criminal charges filed against both actors.Richard’s made a public apology.The puckering actor/philanthropist,57,said in a statement on April 27,”What is most important to me is that my intention as an HIV/AIDS advocate be made clear…….It has never been,nor could it ever be, my intention to offend you.”In a country where public displays of affection are considered toaboo,the kiss caused several traditional Hindu groups to protest and file legal complaints.On April 26,the day before Richard’s apology,Indian judge Dinesh Gupta issued an arrrest warrant for the american actor.If convicted,he could face up to three months in jail.
